Private Wrestling Lessons in Katy, TX

Group practices build the foundation. Private lessons sharpen the edge. At Retro Wrestling, our private wrestling lessons give your athlete the focused, personalized instruction they need to fix bad habits, develop new techniques, and gain the confidence that comes from real improvement — fast.

One-on-one coaching designed around your wrestler — not a room full of them.

What's Included in Every Private Lesson

Every private lesson at Retro Wrestling is built around the same proven structure our coaches use in practice — but dialed in specifically for your wrestler.

Each session focuses on at least two of three core training pillars:

Film Review — Your wrestler brings 1–2 match videos. Our coach reviews the film ahead of time, takes notes, and then breaks it down with the athlete in person. After identifying each critical moment, the wrestler drills the corrections right there on the mat. We don't just talk about what went wrong — we fix it.

Drilling — Our coaches follow an Instruct & Drill method. Every technique is taught, then repped for a minimum of 10 repetitions before moving on. No standing around. No long lectures. Learn it, drill it, own it.

In-Depth Instruction — Tailored technique work based on what your wrestler needs most. Whether it's hand fighting, shot mechanics, top control, or escapes, the entire session revolves around their game.

After every private, athletes receive homework and goals in a personal notebook so they know exactly what to work on before the next session.

How Privates Work

Every private lesson at Retro Wrestling follows a 2-on-1 format — two athletes working with one coach for a full hour. This setup gives each wrestler a live drilling partner while still receiving individualized coaching and feedback.

There are two ways to structure a session:

Split Time — Both wrestlers share the hour. Each pays half the session rate. Both get coached and drilled with a partner who's right there ready to go.

Full Session — One wrestler books the full hour and brings a training partner along. The entire session is built around that wrestler's development, with the partner there to drill and work live reps.

Private lessons are available for wrestlers in the Minis, Juniors, and High School programs.

Private Lesson Pricing

The more you invest in your wrestler's development, the more you save. Our multi-session packages bring the per-lesson cost down significantly — and every package comes with the same quality coaching and structure.

Already a Gold member? You'll receive a free trial private lesson (2-on-1) after your first two months of membership. High School Senior Gold members also receive a monthly private lesson included at no extra cost.

  • Your starting point. A single private lesson at the standard rate — perfect for trying out one-on-one coaching or targeting a specific skill before a tournament.

  • ($55/lesson | Save $15) Enough sessions to identify your wrestler's biggest areas for improvement and start building real habits. Three focused hours on the mat can change how they compete.

  • ($53/lesson | Save $35) This is where serious development happens. Five sessions give your coach enough time to build a progression — layering techniques, reinforcing corrections from film review, and tracking improvement week to week.

  • ($50/lesson | Save $100) The best value and the biggest results. Ten sessions let your wrestler work through a full development plan with their coach — from identifying weaknesses to drilling solutions to seeing those fixes show up in live competition. That's $100 back in your pocket compared to booking individually.

Why Add Privates to Your Membership

Retro Wrestling runs group classes five days a week for Juniors and High School wrestlers, with Minis training three days a week. Add in Saturday Open Mat, and your wrestler already has plenty of opportunities to get on the mat.

But group classes can only do so much. In a room full of athletes, coaches can't spend 15 minutes breaking down one wrestler's single-leg setup. They can't rewind match film and drill corrections on the spot. That's what privates are for.

Private lessons fill the gaps that group training can't. They're where your wrestler gets the detailed, individual attention that turns weaknesses into strengths — whether that means preparing for a specific opponent, cleaning up fundamentals before a big tournament, or building an entirely new part of their game.

Our membership plans start at $85/month (Bronze, 2 days/week), with Silver at $110/month (3 days/week) and Gold at $135/month (unlimited classes). Every membership tier includes access to discounted private lessons, camps, and clinics.
